WHY DOES DUCTWORK NEED CLEANING?
Dust made up of dirt, pollen, germs, fibers, mold spores, hair
and more gets drawn into your heating and ventilation system.
About 95% of these particles will pass through the filter and back
into the room air or it accumulates on the fan blades, grills or
in the ductwork. This build-up can reduce air flow up to 40%. It
is also a breeding ground for bacteria and molds that can cause
allergic reactions in many people and is also a source of musty
odors. Remember—most problems with indoor air quality are
invisible and odorless!
WHEN SHOULD THEY BE CLEANED?
When anyone in the home has breathing problems such as
allergies, asthma or emphysema before moving into a new home when
selling an existing home when installing a new furnace after
renovations when dust appears on walls, ceiling, carpet or drapes
around registers.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD THIS BE DONE?
In most homes the ductwork should be cleaned every three years.
HOW THEY ARE
CLEANED:

Seventy percent of
installed residential cooling systems suffer from inadequate airflow.
Improper airflow can result in
equipment failure, high energy bills and poor comfort. At the minimum,
airflow across indoor coils should be checked and adjusted if
necessary. Improper refrigerant charging can lower efficiency by up to
20%. Make sure you install a heating and cooling product that is sized
correctly. Oversized equipment will increase your customer's costs and
reduce comfort. Ensure proper sizing by completing an ACCA Manual J
load calculation. A quality installation is an investment that can
enhance your customer's comfort while saving them money over the life
of their system. Help ensure the ongoing benefits of your customer's
initial investment.
